Why Play in a Pickleball Tournament

For many, playing pickleball is a fun and social event. A lot of players may enjoy the game but lack the real competitive drive to compete for anything more than that. Sure, there are those that are extremely competitive and want to win at everything they do. And for those people, it’s only natural that they would want to test their skills in a competitive environment such as a tournament setting.

But what about the other players? Why not just continue to enjoy playing the game at their local court or facility with people they know? Well, that’s certainly an option, but we came up with a few good reasons why they may want to look at entering a real pickleball tournament. Here you go.
  • If there is one thing all pickleball players have in common, it’s that they want to have fun. Highly competitive or not, that’s really why they are there, for the joy of the game. And adding a little competition to the mix can make it even more fun.
  • The social experience of the game is really only enhanced in a tournament setting. You will meet new people with a common interest and get to know them. Who knows, maybe you can grab a cold drink after the match and make some new friends.
  • Plus you’ll be able to play against some new players. On your local court you may just play the same people over and over. Now you can expand the list of people you play against who are at a similar skill level as yourself.
  • Pickleball tournaments, especially the larger ones, are many times held at very nice scenic locations. For instance the US Open is held this year in Naples, Florida while the USAPA event will be in Casa Grande, Arizona. Why not combine a vacation with some pickleball and make an even better time of it. Makes a lot of sense.
  • You will be exposed to a lot of really good pickleball players at these tournaments. By observing some of the high-level matches you will be able to pick up tips that will hopefully improve your game. You may also get a better handle of some of the key strategies that the better players use.
So as you can see, you don’t have to be a competitive pickleball player to enter yourself into a few tournaments. You may find that it just adds to your fun and can be a learning experience as well. And you might even get a well-deserved vacation out of it.
